New Assisted Living Regulations in Massachusetts

August 17th, 2015 by beasleyferber

Effective July 1, 2015, new Assisted Living regulations went into effect in Massachusetts. Facilities must document whether residents have durable powers of attorney and health care proxies in effect and, as to residents with serious degenerative illnesses, facilities will have to distribute information about end of life decisions and palliative care. There are additional regulations concerning controlled substances, screening and assessment, training and incident reporting, and safety and disaster evacuation plans. There are about 236 assisted living facilities in Massachusetts, and the rules have not been updated since 2006. For further information, you can consult the website of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs.
